It is said that when time flies, it flies never to be regained. Another year of my life has gone by even quicker than the last, and for a while today I sat and thought to myself “what have you actually done this year”. Shortly after, I got thinking about what I didn’t quite achieve this year and quickly realised that although I’ve not met all the goals I set out to achieve, I have done far better than I had hoped I would at the start of the year.
A career in musical theatre is risky; as much as it brings joy to the people in it, it is a notoriously difficult industry and when I embarked on it two years ago I thought I would be ready for everything it would throw at me – the competitive aspect, the bitchiness, the blood, sweat and tears, the knockbacks – I thought I was fully prepared and going in with my eyes open. I was not.

Three days ago I went to see Titanic: The Musical. Yes, an actual musical about the titanic. I’ll be honest, when I booked my tickets I had my concerns about the show and whether it would just be the romanticised Leo and Kate story that was released in cinemas 19 years ago, but the production was so much more than that story, and actually told a touching, heart wrenching tale of the real life people who lived and died on the maiden voyage.
